On Wednesday, June 11, the ladies of the Andover Service Club (ASC) met at 74 Main (formerly the Millstone Restaurant) in New London for the annual June luncheon. The agenda included opening words by Margo Coolidge, committee reports, and bylaws updating.
The Executive Board for fiscal year 2014-2015 was unanimously elected. They are: President, Mary Ofenloch; First Vice President, Diane Rice; Second Vice President, Evelyn Davis; Secretary, Eileen Mackey; Treasurer, Robin Boynton; Assistant Treasurer, Sandra Graves; Corresponding Secretary, Theresa Leclerc; Past President, Robin Boynton.
Beginning in fiscal year 2015-2016, there will be term limits for the Executive Board consisting of no more than two consecutive two-year terms, on an alternating basis, to ensure continuity.
Many volunteer organizations are experiencing serious losses of membership due to age, ill health, and movement from the community to other towns or out of state. This has been problematic for ASC as well. We rely upon the hard work and dedication of volunteer members to fulfill our mission “to be of service to the community and the state, as well as to broaden and strengthen the social and intellectual life of the members.”
The ASC financially aids 14 community, and wider community, groups, as well as awarding scholarships to high school seniors and continuing education college students. Each year, this mission becomes more difficult with the loss of membership. We understand families are struggling in today’s economy, and many women are working past retirement age.
Benefits to your community will be lost if ASC can no longer fulfill its mission. When you speak with a Service Club member, she will tell you how personally gratifying it is to know you are helping to support the Andover Food Pantry, scouting organizations, elderly at COA, children at AE/MS, The Andover Beacon, Danbury School, Highland Lake Grange Hall, FNRT, Child and Family Services, and most important, the higher education of our students.
Members need not be an Andover resident, as present members reside in Andover, East Andover, Wilmot, Danbury, Franklin, New London, Hill, Concord, Springfield, New Hampton, and Bristol. We welcome any lady who would like to participate in our events and/or fundraising efforts. Dues are $10 per year.
Membership in ASC is not “all work and no play.” Friendships lasting for many years have developed among the members.
