Andover’s Fourth of July Spans Two Days This Year

Village Green on the Fourth, fireworks on the fifth

By Judy Perreault, Fourth of July Committee

Once again our fundraising campaign for Andover’s annual Fourth of July celebration was a big success. People who donated were very generous. Our thanks to Wanda Smith and all the canvassers. We equaled and possibly surpassed last year’s collection.

CANCELLED!

Due to a major rain event associated with the on-coming hurricane …the Andover 4th of July PARADE, OPENING CEREMONY, FLAG RAISING CEREMONY, & MUSIC CONCERTS have been CANCELLED WITH NO RAIN DATE RE-SCHEDULE. The fireworks is still scheduled for dusk on Saturday night with a rain date for Sunday night. Anyone having questions please contact Bob Ward, Chairman of the 4th of July Committee at 735-5061.

We are still accepting donations. If you have some spare change call Wanda Smith at 735-5434. She’s an expert with piggy banks.

Another fundraiser for the Fourth of July celebration is raffle tickets for our beautiful red, white, and blue quilt made by Rose Tilton and quilted by Linda Barnes of The Constant Quilter. Be sure to get your tickets. They will be on sale on the Fourth at the Andover Lion’s Club breakfast at AE/MS and on the Village Green. You can also get them from members of the Fourth of July Committee.

The parade theme this year is “Summertime.” There is limited space in the parade staging area, so only parade entries are allowed. Route 4 can only be closed for 30 minutes for the parade, so there is no stopping along the way (except for an emergency). If you are in the parade and tossing candy, be sure to get it all the way to the side of the road.

Please do not park in the designated handicap parking areas. There is a fine.

Parade registration forms are available at AndoverBeacon.com/Fourth-2014, at the Town Office, or call 735-5493. You may also register for the parade on the Fourth.

For flea market space on the Village Green, contact Doug Phelps at 802 310-1045 or DPhelps@nullus.ibm.com. Any other questions, call Bob Ward at 735-5061.

We have a big day planned, so come for breakfast, enter the footrace, check out the cars at the car show, browse the flea market , play a little golf, listen to the music, watch the parade, and take in the ball game. Above all, enjoy!

Don’t forget: the fireworks are on Saturday, July 5, at dusk.
