Leo L. McCabe, 75, of Gale Road, died suddenly on Friday, November 23, 2012 in Worcester, Massachusetts while visiting with his family for the holiday.
Leo was born in Flint, Michigan on February 7, 1937, the son of John P. and Martha (Lantis) McCabe. He graduated from St. Philip Neri High School in 1955. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966 from Detroit Institute of Technology and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration in 1972 from Eastern Michigan University. From 1967 through 1997, he was a seventh grade social studies teacher for Kearsarge Regional School District.
He served in the US Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958 and in the Reserves from 1958 to 1962. He served active duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri La.
Leo was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Parish and was the first president of the Parish Council at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. He was a member and past president of the Andover Lions Club and was a founding member of the Andover Cable TV Committee.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at his summer home in Wells Beach, Maine. An avid reader, he particularly liked studying the American automobile industry.
Members of his family surviving include his wife of 48 years, Donna L. (McGonigle) McCabe of Andover; a son and his wife, Daniel L. and Julie A. McCabe and twin grandsons, Ryan and Gavin, and a granddaughter, Kathryn, all of Northborough, Massachusetts; a sister and her husband, Elizabeth and Joseph Rizzo, of Troy, Michigan; a sister, Angela Jones of Carlton, Michigan; a brother and his wife, Phillip and Elizabeth McCabe, Jr. of Westchester, Ohio; a brother-in-law and his wife, John and Debbie McGonigle of Summerfield, Florida; and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home at 235 Main Street, New London on Wednesday, November 28, from 5 to 7 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 29, at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Potter Place. Burial will be in Proctor Cemetery in Andover.
