Oscar L. Vezina, 90, of Franklin died peacefully at home on May 23, 2014, with his loving wife and family by his side.
He was born on November 21, 1923, in Penacook, the son of Albert and Helen (Dragon) Vezina. Oscar was a lifelong resident of Penacook before moving to Franklin 14 years ago. He served his country during World War II with the 8th Air Force, stationed in England. He received the American Theater Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Presidential Citation.
Oscar was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Penacook, where he served as an usher and greeter for 30 years, as an Eucharistic minister for over 20 years, and on the Parish Council for four terms. He was the Supervisor of the Checklist when living in Penacook.
For the past six years, he was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Franklin. Oscar worked as the meat manager in the Concord, Contoocook, and Tilton locations of A&P Food Market for 40 years. Upon retiring, he and his wife Doris volunteered for several years at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen.
His family members include his wife, Doris Vezina of Franklin; a son, William Vezina of Quincy, Massachusetts; a daughter, Sandra Mounsey and her husband Stanley of Concord; five stepsons: Wayne Kimball, Stephen Kimball, Richard Kimball, and Alan Kimball, all of Franklin, and Paul Kimball of Andover; three stepdaughters, Judy Dion, Jeanne Bush, and Cindy Day, all of Franklin; two sisters: Catherine Parnell of South Carolina and Pauline Mitchner of Concord; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 53 years, Pauline (Stafford) Vezina; two daughters Deborah (Vezina) Sevigney and Dolores Vezina; two brothers, Raymond Vezina and Robert Vezina; and two sisters, Louise Boffitto and Patricia Pickering.
There were no calling hours. A memorial Mass was held at St. Paul’s Church of St. Gabriel Parish at Franklin on May 30. A graveside service with military honors took place at Calvary Cemetery on Village Road in Penacook, and a reception followed at Thompson Hall in Franklin to celebrate his life.
