Andover Youth Baseball Wraps Up a Successful Season

Andover Blue team goes 13-1, wins championship

By Justin Carey, President, Andover Youth Baseball

Another successful youth baseball season has officially come to an end. The 2014 season saw 63 young boys and girls learn the fundamentals of playing the game that we love so much. This year we were able to field four teams: a t-ball team, a Rookies (Coach Pitch) team, and two Minors teams.

Our busy season began immediately after the snow disappeared from Blackwater Park on Lawrence Street. Volunteers worked hard and donated their time to get the field ready, while our teams got to work preparing for the upcoming season, and all of our teams had tremendously successful seasons.

Our t-ball team improved greatly, as did our Rookies team. Our two Minors teams, Andover Blue and Andover Red, had very successful regular seasons and entered the playoffs as the #2 and the #4 seed out of 11 teams in the Kearsarge Valley League. Our Andover Blue team ended up winning the Minors Division Championship and ended with a record of 13-1. This makes the second championship at this level for Andover teams in the past three years.

We are very excited about the future for our baseball program. This season we designed a new “A” logo which is easily recognized around town on our player’s hats and jerseys. We also were able to use the new Rec Building at Blackwater Park (although it is not 100% complete) for concession purposes, which was a success.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve our field and have many new ideas in the works. Without the generous donations and sponsorships from the community, our program would not be able to succeed.

I would also like to take this time to thank all the volunteers who put time in this year to help out wherever needed. I would also like to thank all the coaches and parents for your continued support and wonderful sportsmanship throughout the season. Thank you all!
