New Exhibit: “All of My Relations: Faces and Effigies of the Abenaki World” August 1 – October 31. Guest curator and Abenaki artist Vera Longtoe Sheehan has assembled works from nine Abenaki artists working in many media including photography, painting, wood and wampum. Program: New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Surface Watering Monitoring Approach August 2, 2:00pm. The Little Nature Museum presents a hands on program about monitoring water pollution with the Watershed Bureau Management Staff of NHDES. Staff will provide a short overview of the NHDES Watershed Bureau’s water monitoring efforts using a handout and will provide a hands-on demonstration of water monitoring techniques. Here’s the chance to learn first-hand what the Watershed Bureau does, why and how they’re doing it, and what they’re learning. Free admission. Walking tour of Contoocook River Park August 9, 10 AM. This tour, led by Carol Foss of the Penacook Historical Society, will explore the former site of the Contoocook River Park, including “the Palisades,” “the Bluffs,” the boat landing, the trolley route, and the old canal. Talk: Crossing the Merrimack: From Ferries to Bridges August 9, 1 PM. The Lane River Mills/ Pillsbury Family Reenactment August 17, 1:00pm-3 PM. Join us on Sutton’s 99th Old Home Day for “Voices from the Past IV”, a live mini-tour where you will meet and listen to some of Sutton’s most interesting historic folks. They will take you back in time, and share their stories about living and conducting business along the Lane River. Free admission. Canoe/Kayak/Paddleboard Trip on the Contoocook River August 23, 9:30am (earlier if renting equipment). Free if using own equipment, 10% equipment rental discount from Contoocook River Canoe Co. Paddle nine miles down the Contoocook River at your own pace and learn about the river’s history. Paddlers will be given a laminated sheet identifying items of interest along the Contoocook River. For those renting equipment Pat Malfait will give a brief history of activities along the river.
