The Andover Fish and Game Club (AF&G) is holding its annual Beef Barbecue and Chinese Auction on Saturday, August 23, from 5 to 6:30 PM at the Proctor Academy Field House. We have made an adjustment to the Auction in the hopes that it will run much more smoothly and quickly this year.
Tickets for the Deer Pool and the annual Gun Raffle – a Browning A5 shotgun – can be purchased during the event. The gun will be raffled off at the Turkey Raffle in October.
In Memoriam, Buzz Call
This year’s Beef Barbecue will be dedicated to the memory of longtime Club member and past President, Richard “Buzz” Call. Buzz, a Korean War veteran from Sutton, passed away last October. He was an avid outdoorsman who, for several years, shared his knowledge by instructing Hunter Safety courses. He was an active member of local communities in many capacities. In association with the Andover Fish and Game Club, he will perhaps be most fondly remembered for his cooking talents at the Beef Barbecue.
The highlight of the meal includes juicy beef cooked by Murray Smith, fresh corn on the cob, and strawberries and ice cream for dessert. There will also be homemade side dishes provided by Club members and their spouses, who also prepare and serve the food during the event.
Chinese Auction items, which include hunting and fishing paraphernalia, crafts, gift certificates, and much more, are donated by local businesses and individuals. The AF&G thanks everyone for their time and contributions.
The Beef Barbecue, as the AF&G’s biggest fundraiser of the year, provides funds for the two Kids Fishing Derbies and to send kids to the Barry Conservation Camp, which educates children on hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor skills.
For just $12 for adults and $5 for kids under 12 years old, come and enjoy a great meal and good company, and help the Andover Fish and Game Club raise money for their many community endeavors. For tickets and more information, call 735-5311.
