PRESERVING YOUR HARVEST- THE BASICS OF PRESERVING FOOD SAFELY

UNH Cooperative Extension will cover the latest research-based methods and recipes for home food preservation, answer questions, and share experiences. They will cover: jams and jellies, pickling, canning fruits and vegetables, freezing and drying food, and will have an overview of preserving food safely at home. EMERALD ASH BORER AND OTHER CAUSES OF TREE DECLINE

Amy Papineau, UNH Cooperative Extension Food & Agriculture Field Specialist, will discuss some of the many insects and diseases that are causing stress and decline in our trees. Special attention will be given to the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect that has been found in several sites in Merrimack County. Barns are admired for their structural beauty, but there are a lot of interesting features which tell the story of how the barns were used. This presentation will give a pictorial tour through several old barns in New England and explain the function of special items such as the scuttle hole, windlass, cupola, hay mow, barn bridge, and other things which had a specific function for the time.
