Horses, Carriages on the Rail Trail

Special permit draws riders and drivers

Granite State Carriage Association secured a special permit from the state and held its first horse-drawn carriage event on the Northern Rail Trail on September 21. Drivers, as well as horseback riders, gathered at Potter Place and took to the Trail for leisurely rides to Highland Lake and back. The event organizers also mapped out optional loops along some of Andover's scenic back roads, including Maple Street, Old College Road, and Elbow Pond Road. The September 21 ride on the Northern Rail Trail wasn't just for carriages. Kathy Sweet of Andover rode horseback for three hours, enjoying the first fall color on the trees. Photo: Lindy Heim
