Five Gallery Openings in New London on November 7

Press release

Arts - Center for the Arts - Photo - YoungThe community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ (CFA) First Friday events on November 7 from 5 to 7 PM. The confluence of five gallery openings scheduled for this evening has turned New London into a true “Center for the Arts”! All gallery sites are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Colby-Sawyer’s annual Faculty Exhibit will open on campus at the Marian Graves Mugar Gallery. The art faculty will show their latest works in a variety of mediums. Participating are David Ernster, Nicholas Gaffney, Jon Keenan, Mary Mead, Hilary Dana Walrod, Loretta S.W. Barnett, and Bert Yarborough.

At Whipple Hall’s front foyer and conference room, 11 Center for the Arts members will exhibit their work. CFA appreciates its partnership with the New London Town Recreation Department. This gallery will offer an ongoing exhibit, changing artists every two to three months.

The current artists will each exhibit two pieces. The artists are Betsy Derrick, oil on linen; Susan Parmenter; oil on linen; Laurence Harper, photography; Gwen Nagle, pastels; Yvonne Shukovsky, photography; David Tibbetts, watercolors; Roger Wells, acrylic on canvas; Tatiana Sink, oil on linen; Liz D’Amico, oil monotype; Mary Gerakaris, photography; and Linda Dessaint, pastel and oil on board.

The second annual Regional Juried Show sponsored by the Center for the Arts will be located at the New London Inn. Two-dimensional artists from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Maine were invited to participate.

The judge for this year’s Regional Juried Show was Tom Driscoll, a faculty member at Plymouth State University, where Tom coordinates the painting program, as well as teaching painting, drawing, printmaking, and foundations. Tom exhibits his artwork regionally and nationally. Center for the Arts is honored that he would adjudicate this regional show.

From 172 works of art submitted, 25 have been juried into this show, one from each of 25 artists: Patricia Sweet-MacDonald, Aline H. Lotter, Elizabeth Craumen, Laurence Harper, Louise Morin Dichard, Elizabeth Moore, Tatiana Yanovskaya-Sink, Sherie Dowsett, Christine R. Hawkins, Erin Tataczuk, Shari Boraz, Betsy Derrick, Naomi Hartof, Jonathan Rose, Anne Murray, Lucy Mueller Young, Nathan Shartar-Howe, Scott Snyder, Susan Parmenter, Wayne King, Roger Wells, Yvonne Shukovsky, Elizabeth D’Amico, Sandra Kavanough, and Gwen Nagel.

Best of Show, second place, third place, as well as honorable mentions will be announced at the First Friday event.

Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that Lake Sunapee Bank’s Main Street branch has chosen to become a regular participant in New London’s quarterly Gallery Night celebrations.  Kaitlyn Covel, branch manager, brings a wonderful perspective to this endeavor. CFA welcomes both Kaitlyn and Lake Sunapee Bank. Susan Parmenter, well respected and talented regional artist, will be the bank’s first exhibitor. The focus of Susan’s work is in oil and pastel.

Zero Celsius Wealth gallery will also have an opening on this evening.

Make plans to attend the opening events for these five gallery openings. If you cannot, please know that the art will be available for viewing from November 7 through January 31, 2015 at all venues, with the exception of the Colby-Sawyer faculty exhibit, which will close on February 13, 2015.

All First Friday events are free and open to the public. On the first Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts hosts a series of free arts programs for the enjoyment of the community. These events include gallery openings and receptions, classical and folk music nights, literary and poetry nights, as well as theater nights. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region.
