My greatest satisfaction the past two years has been helping constituents get health insurance. This has an immediate, beneficial effect on someone’s life and family.
I am also happy with the results of my bill HB 581, which urged the Attorney General to go after Massachusetts for flood control payments. New Hampshire was able to recoup $1.1 million, half of which went to the state, the other half to the 18 affected flood control towns, including Salisbury.
Despite pressure from my own party, I voted to keep $12 million in the rainy-day fund.
For the 2015-2016 legislative session, I have introduced the following proposed bills:
- a four year term for Governor
- allow voters to pick whichever primary ballot they prefer, regardless of party affiliation
- a campaign finance bill requiring non-profit organizations that engage in political advertising to disclose their donors, so we know where the money is coming from
- repeal of the statute that allows political parties seven days after the primary to appoint candidates for the general election – I believe this interferes with the political vetting process that a primary provides
Finally, I want to close the books on the money still owed our flood control towns for 2013.
If re-elected, I will continue to go after both federal and state dollars for our towns, for our schools, and for municipal roads and bridges in a fiscally responsible way.
My phone calls to state officials and department heads are promptly returned. This allows me to provide needed services for constituents which is, by far, the most pleasurable part of the job.
