Raymond Guy Hersey, 93, of East Andover, died at Mountain Ridge Center in Franklin on October 18, 2014. He was born in Andover on July 3, 1921, the son of Guy and Nannie (Robie) Hersey. He resided in East Andover most of his life.
During World War II, he served in the US Army in the Pacific Theater and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and several others awards.
He was formerly employed at JP Stevens in Franklin, and later at Brezner’s Tannery in Penacook for over 26 years until retiring.
He was a life member of Franklin VFW Post 1698 and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Hersey enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, snowmobiling, and working on cars. He and his wife, Dorothy (Flanders) Hersey, who died in 2012, enjoyed travelling, including trips to Yellowstone Park and the Grand Canyon.
Family members include his two daughters, Charlotte Pellerin of Bedford and Lucille Twombly of Franklin; three grandchildren, Russell Hersey, Jr., Eric Pellerin, and Katrina Schilling; great grandchildren Ave Marie Hersey and Julie Schilling; daughter-in-law Suzanne Hersey of Henniker; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Darlene Hersey, in 2011; a son, Russell Hersey Sr., in 2000; and siblings James Hersey, Samuel Hersey, Dorothy LaPlante, Lewis Hersey, and Elsie Bassett.
A visitation will be held at Thibault-Neun Funeral Home, 143 Franklin Street in Franklin, on Wednesday, October 22, from noon to 1 PM, with a service following. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in East Andover.
