Rose Susan (Jurta) Whitney, 88, of Antrim died on October 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born on June 23, 1926 in Salisbury, the daughter of John and Annie (Funas) Jurta Sr. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Edward Whitney, who died in 1997 after 47 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by a stepson in 1955, Charles Dennis Whitney, and by four brothers: John Jr., Paul, George, and Steve, and one sister, Elizabeth Lowell.

She graduated in 1947 from Andover High School and worked for the Goodell Company for 33 years before her retirement in 1988.

She is survived by a daughter, Harriet Ann Whitney of Antrim; a stepson, Ralph and Carole Whitney of Oregon; a brother, Sam Whitney; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, October 26, at 2 PM in Butler Cemetery in Deering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
