Dear AEMS Family,

Happy Halloween! Please be sure children are safe tomorrow tonight as they enjoy the holiday. If you are new to Andover you will want to be sure and visit Lawrence Street in the village and join the hordes of trick-or-treaters. It is Halloween at its best!

We look forward to having our kindergarten students parade through the school tomorrow. It is a treat for students in grades 1-8 to see the little guys meander through the classrooms and halls with their costumes.

I anticipate a busy parking lot on Tuesday for Election Day. Please be extra cautious if you are picking up your child at the end of the school day.

Thanks for making Math Night so much fun! And thank you for all the generous donations to the Andover Food Pantry!

Congratulations to our big Box Tops winners and thank you to all who participated. It really does pay off for our playground. We have earned $770.00 dollars this fall! Cameron Chevarie and Garrett Barton were the B-I-G collectors and each will receive Monarchs tickets. We will be starting another contest again soon so keep saving and thank you!

www.soundinfocus.net  is the website of our artist in residence who will work with AEMS students in January. When you visit the website check out the Sneak Peeks section and you will see a small portion of what will be featured at our K-8 assembly.  This residency is designed to teach students about the scientific properties of sound.  It will feature several awesome science experiments that demonstrate six properties of sound.

Don’t forget about signing up 1st-6th graders for town recreation basketball if interested. Teams are forming now. Registration paperwork is attached. Contact Emily Furtkamp (efurtkamp@nullkearsarge.org)  for more information.

It is also the time to sign up for the town ski and snowboard program that takes place at Ragged Mountain beginning January 9th. Registration must be completed by December 19th but if your child is renting equipment through Ragged Mountain Ski Area you shouldn’t wait that long. The town has been offering the ski program to Andover students for many years. It is a great opportunity for children to learn how to ski and/or snowboard. Please contact Jen Hauser (hauserje@nullproctoracademy.org) or Sue Norris (norrissu@nullproctoracademy.org) for more information. They are in charge of the program for the town of Andover.

Please take the time this weekend to access your child’s lunch account and add money to the account. Thanks!

German language instruction started this week. We are fortunate that community member Gisela Darling and Rosie Best continue to offer our students this opportunity.

It is a good practice for parents to regularly visit the NH Registration of Criminal Offenders website which is maintained by the NH State Police. The website contains identifying information about the offense for which the offender against children is registered. A photograph and physical address is available. When on the site, just type in “Andover” and you will be directed to the right information. Local law enforcement should be contacted with specific questions. www4.egov.nh.gov/nsor/Search.aspx

We are still collecting used printer cartridges. As a school we recycle them and earn money toward the playground.

Now that cooler mornings are here, students will come inside upon arrival beginning Monday. All students will enter through the lobby doors and go to the designated meeting place for their class. When the bell rings at 7:40, students will go to classrooms and lockers. Students arriving after 7:40 should enter through office door.

Thursday, November 6th, is our annual AEMS Veterans Day. Local veterans have all been invited. The assembly starts at 9:00 in the gym and parents and community members are welcome to attend. Classes all have a role in the assembly as they pay tribute to our veterans and show their appreciation for the freedom we enjoy today. This is one of our “best” days at AEMS. Please join us!

Carmen Bates will be contacting all school families and asking you to help provide light refreshments for the veterans. Many of our veterans stay after the assembly and visit with each other while being served coffee and baked goods by our eighth grade students.

Grandparent Thanksgiving will be here before you know it! Get the word out to grandparents or older relatives. A feast and great company await them on November 20th.

The film crew returns to our school on November 4th for School Picture Retakes. If your child was absent or needs their photo redone for any reason this is your chance. Just follow the directions on your child’s packet.

The Andover Players will present “ANNIE” on March 26th and 27th. Auditions were held last week and production begins next week.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back this weekend.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to stop in or call.

Happy Halloween!
