It was a dark, dreary night on the shores of Bradley Lake. Howling wind and driving rain. A perfect setting for a scary Halloween celebration. Yet it was not scary at all.  The weather did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of all who came – young and old. I’m talking about Seery Hill’s 17th annual Halloween celebration, held on November 1.

From adult boarders to the youngest of students (age 2!), costumed participants paraded with their costumed horses to the delight of friends and family. The degree of creativity was amazing. It’s one thing to dress up a human. It’s quite another to dress up a horse. Ballerinas, Santa’s elves, a friendly dragon, a very cute ghost, a huge hippie, a military veteran, autumn and winter, a prince, adorable ladybug, scary spider, Wilbur the Pig, even a handsome Mountie and a hot air balloon(!) were among those showcased in the event.

Following the parade, “Mummy Wrap” teams of youth and adults raced to turn three patient horses into toilet paper-wrapped mummies. Yep, just when you thought you’d seen it all.

Perhaps the most impressive part of the evening was the amazing sense of camaraderie at Seery Hill. As Missy Zlotocha, Farm Manager/Instructor noted, “There are no prizes given out during this event because everyone wins!”

Kudos to Missy for yet another successful Halloween celebration. It was clearly a fun-filled night for humans and horses alike!
