Wilmot Express Brings Holiday Fun on December 14

Fun for the whole family will be on track starting at 4 PM Sunday, December 14. Thatis when the young and young-at-heart can climb aboard the third annual Wilmot Express, a town-wide holiday celebration. The Wilmot Express is a joint effort by the Wilmot Community Association (WCA), the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wilmot Public Library.

The first stop – from 4 PM to 5:30 PM – will be at the WCA’s Red Barn at 64 Village Road, next door to the U.S. Post Office in Wilmot Flat. Visit with your friends and neighbors while your children decorate cookies.

At the second stop – from 5 PM to 7 PM – a hearty spaghetti dinner, caroling and tree lighting ceremony will be held at the Fire Station, 1 Firehouse Lane, just off Route 11. Along with spaghetti, Wilmot’s volunteer firefighters will serve salad, bread, dessert, and beverages. The cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and younger.

“We’re hoping to fill a fire truck with food to help families in need in the community. Anyone who brings a non-perishable food item for the Wilmot Food Pantry will receive a $2 discount on his or her dinner,” said Kyla Pillsbury, firefighting lieutenant and captain of Wilmot EMS.” Caroling and a tree lighting ceremony will start at 6:30 PM

At 7 PM,  Santa Claus will hop on a fire truck, give the call for “all aboard,” and travel to the Wilmot Public Library, 11 North Wilmot Road, just off Route 4 A in Wilmot Center. The Jolly Old Elf will give each child a special gift and read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” at 7:15 PM.  John Swindell, a professional photographer based in Wilmot, will take photos of children with Santa.

“The Wilmot Express is great fun and we are grateful to Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty for underwriting the event again this year,” said Susan Nye, administrator at the WCA.

Rosanna Dude, director of the Wilmot Public Library added, “This joint effort is a great way for the WCA, the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wilmot Public Library to bring the community together. By combining our resources, we can create a memorable evening for folks of all ages to enjoy,”
