LEGO nights are coming to Andover!

By Janet Moore, Andover Library trustee

Have we got plans for you! LEGO nights are coming to Andover soon. The LEGO company has sponsored a 20-person LEGO collection, available to New Hampshire libraries on a regional rotation. That means that any assortment of about 20 persons will be able to play LEGOs to their collective hearts’ content someday soon at the library. Keep watch in the town libraries to find out when the LEGOs are coming to you.

We are currently negotiating an appearance with renowned field biologist, naturalist, and author Sy Montgomery. When her latest book tour begins in late spring, she’ll fit us into her schedule. Having heard her speak about Birdology and The Good, Good Pig, I can hardly wait; Christopher Hogwood, the giant family pig, is one of my favorite characters in animal literature.

And that’s not all. Sometime in mid-February, The Blues Man will grace our town with a rousing performance of the blues. “Poor Howard” Stith from Dover has given sold-out performances at libraries around the state as he regales audiences with blues tidbits and history and plays on a variety of guitars.

If that’s not enough to roll you out of your recliner, consider some quieter options. Both libraries seek volunteers and substitutes. We need folks who could sort our donations and transport them to the downstairs bookshelves. Web site expertise and/or enthusiastic interest is also high on our list.

If you would rather spend a very occasional few hours as a paid substitute, now hiring at $9 an hour, let us know and we’ll train you right away.

So strap on your “yak tracks” and make your way through rain, snow, and ice to the best free informational and cultural resource in your town – the Andover Libraries.
