Andover’s American Legion Post 101 Needs You!

Post could lose its charter

By Bill Leber, American Legion Post 101

My fellow veterans,

It is time to sign up again, as we did some years ago, to serve our country. We had such a great turnout for the Andover school’s Veterans Day event that it really excited me; especially to see the young people so interested in the military and the history of our country’s struggles with the many wars and battles.

It is important that many of us who have served continue to speak out about the importance of a strong defense.

We have an Andover American Legion Post 101 in our town that is in need of new members who served during the various wars; and in particular, the more recent Middle East campaigns.

Our membership has dwindled to below minimum standard to continue the Post, and we are threatened with the loss of our charter. The Post has been relatively dormant for many years. We need to breathe new life into the organization, add new members, and start being active again with patriotic events, assisting veterans in need, and providing information for our next generation.

Current members of the Post will be calling or contacting veterans to solicit their membership.

For more information, you may call Post Commander  Henry (Skip) Powers at 735-6563; Post Adjutant Richard Powers, Jr. at  735-5112; member Jay Boynton at 735-5554; or member Bill Leber at 735-5144. Or simply attend the next meeting of the Post on Tuesday, December 9, at 7 PM at the Masonic Lodge in Potter Place. Hope to see you there.
