Square Dance with the Bradford Country Squares

January 2 in New London

Press release

The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ First Friday event on January 2 from 5 to 7 PM at Whipple Hall in New London. The Bradford Country Squares (BCS) will conduct a square dance demonstration.

Have you ever attended a Square Dance? If not, this will be your golden opportunity. The Bradford Country Squares are performing for this First Friday event of the New Year!

BCS was established in Bradford in the 1980s, and they have been going strong ever since. Not only do they entertain, but they also instruct newcomers in “the Art of the Square.” The BCS philosophy is “This is, after all, America’s folk dance, and we want to keep it from dying out.”

It is often said that Square Dancing is a friendship set to music. And we get to laugh a lot! The caller for this evening will be the well-known Don Bachelder, who is considered one of the finest.

Some say that Square Dancing is the ultimate game of “Simon Says” that shows how to perform each movement of the square dance. Don Bachelder will give you an excellent demonstration with the BCS dancers, showing off their style. Then he will select willing participants from the audience who would like to experience square dancing. He will teach a few of the basic calls and have the newbies dancing in minutes! Come join the fun. Light refreshments will follow.
