Programs
Soccer: Heidi Murphy reports that Andover fifth- and sixth-grade soccer played in the Merrimack Soccer League, which is composed of 19 central New Hampshire towns. There are over a hundred teams divided into various age groups and levels.
Andover boys fifth/sixth tournament opponents were Webster-Salisbury #1, Webster-Salisbury #2, Boscawen, Penacook #1, Shaker Road School, and Hopkinton #2. The Andover boys had to play their tournament in Warner, while Andover hosted the “C” division boys tournament. The Andover boys team was coached by Robert Koziol and the Andover girls were coached by Claudio Marcus. Andover girls fifth/sixth tournament opponents were Warner, Webster-Salisbury, Weare #2, Grantham, and Hillsboro #3.
The third and fourth grades played in the Bob Andrews Jamboree held at the New London Outing Club. One team was coached by Heidi Murphy, while the other team was coached by Morgan Salathe and Anne Swayze.
First- and second-grade soccer does not play an outside schedule. Coaches were Michelle Dudek, Harvey Pine, and Chris Bentzler.
Basketball: Andover will play in the Quad Valley League with Grantham, Kearsarge, and Sunapee. Director of Basketball Emily Furtkamp came to the meeting with a detailed audit of equipment that will require little augmentation. The program will consist of the fifth- and sixth-grade boys coached by Sam Poulin, fifth- and sixth-grade girls coached by Darryl Furtkamp, third- and fourth-grade boys coached by Karri Heller, and the third- and fourth-grade girls coached by Heather Wood.
It was voted to buy t-shirts for all basketball players.
It continues to be hard to attract qualified referees. Last year the pay was $20 for adults and $10 for kids under college age. It was decided to pay referees at the end of the season.
Skiing: Skiing signup will again be on Math Night, October 23, at 6:30 PM.
The skiing fee will be $30 per child and $25 for siblings. One hundred new orange pinnies have been ordered to distinguish AE/MS skiers. There will be five Friday dates. If a date is lost due to weather, it will be made up at the end of the season.
All kids who come on a bus must come home on the bus. This is the only way to properly keep track of over 100 children!
Kindergarten and first graders must come and leave with parents.
Other Business
Recreation Building: Howard George said that he and Lloyd Perreault put up the box on the pole and electricity has been hooked up. Water is the next step, and then inside wiring. No additional updates were available, but the Recreation Committee wants to discuss these next steps in more detail at the next meeting.
Fields and Maintenance: Howard mowed the field the week before the fifth- and sixth-grade girls soccer tournament on October 18.
