At least 150 people – the young and the young at heart – climbed aboard the third annual Wilmot Express on Sunday, December 14.

The progressive, town-wide holiday event was a joint effort by the Wilmot Community Association (WCA), the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wilmot Public Library.

Children, parents and grandparents decorated cookies at the first stop, the WCA’s Red Barn. They slathered cookies with royal icing. Then they festooned the cookies with an assortment of sprinkles and candies.

Dinner at the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department’s firehouse was the next stop. After a hearty meal of spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad, many diners waited for Santa Claus to arrive in a fire truck. When he arrived, the Jolly Old Elf led the crowd in Christmas carols and lit the lights on the tree. Lots of diners donated a non-perishable food item destined for the Wilmot Food Pantry.

Then it was “All Aboard!” for the third stop. Escorted by a Wilmot Police cruiser, Santa arrived at the Wilmot Public Library where he read Twas the Night Before Christmas and distributed a book to each child.

“The Wilmot Express was great fun. We are grateful to Four Seasons Sotheby’s International Realty for underwriting the event again this year,” said Susan Nye, administrator at the WCA.

Rosanna Dude, director of the Wilmot Public Library, added, “This joint effort is a great way for the WCA, the Wilmot Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wilmot Public Library to help bring the community together. By combining our resources, we created a memorable evening for folks of all ages to enjoy.”
