Andover’s American Legion Post 101 is Back!

Needs veterans of all wars to join

By Bill Leber, Post 101

As I reported in the previous edition of the Beacon, Andover’s American Legion Post 101 was under pressure to increase membership and activities or be subjected to losing its charter.

At its meeting in December, Post 101 decided to make an effort to increase the membership by contacting the many veterans who were invited to the Veterans Day celebration at the Andover Elementary/Middle School.

Telephone invitations were issued to the veterans, and response was positive; several attended the Post meeting in January to join the American Legion Post 101. We are excited that we are on the way to reactivating the Post.

The Post 101 is interested in sponsoring celebrations or observances of the various patriotic holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, September 11 Day, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day in town and in the area.

However, we need more members, in particular those who served in recent Middle East wars. We welcome inquiries and new members to bring more ideas for services and activities.

For more information and membership application, call Post Commander Henry “Skip” Powers at 735-6563 or membership volunteers Bill Leber at 735-5144 or Don Clendenen at 735-5032.

American Legion Post 101 will be meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at the Masonic Hall in Potter Place at 7 PM. All veterans are welcome.
