This past year, 2014, was a very busy and productive one for the Andover Service Club (ASC). The ovens of the ASC ladies produced delicious homemade goodies for the numerous bake sales held throughout the year, such as the Thanksgiving Pie Sale, bake sales on Town Meeting and Election Days, Fourth of July pie sale (which unfortunately was canceled by Mother Nature), the Christmas Bake Sale at Bluewater Farm, and the Special Olympics bake sale at Carr Field.

ASC volunteers worked very diligently to beautify our town, planting lovely, colorful flowers and plants around Town Hall and in the flower boxes at the Thrift Shop.

Members donated gifts, craft items, and gift certificates, as well as donations from local businesses, enough to fill two large baskets for the “Gifts Galore” raffle. More than 600 tickets were sold; winning tickets were drawn at the Christmas luncheon at 74 Main in New London. Winners were Robert Leclerc of Danbury and Karen Niemeyer of Andover.

The ASC Thrift Shop on School Street is the major source of ASC funding for many local organizations, especially the ASC Merit Scholarship Fund. ASC ladies volunteer to price and sell donated clothing and accessories. The shop is open for business on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 AM until 4 PM and on Saturday from 10 AM until 2 PM.

Every June at the annual spring luncheon, the ASC Executive Board is elected by the members. ASC meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month (except July and August) at 10 AM in the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover. Meetings consist of business reports and discussions, special programs that inform and/or entertain, and refreshments.

The mission of ASC is: one, to be of service to the people of the community and the state; and two, to broaden and strengthen the social and intellectual life of the members.

The ASC welcomes ladies of all ages to become members. If you would like to meet new friends and help your community, please e-mail Mary Ofenloch, ASC President, at MaryO.ASClub@nulllive.com for more information.
