Nelson Makechnie Wins AE/MS Spelling Bee

"Tempura" sends him to state competition

On January 23, 29 AE/MS students in grades four through eight participated in the school spelling bee. This year’s bee was full of challenging words such as "omniscient" and "cajolery." A previous champion, eighth grader Nelson Makechnie, was the AE/MS 2015 Spelling Bee Champion. His winning championship round word was "tempura." Nelson will now participate in the state spelling bee in Concord on February 28. There was a heated battle between four contestants for second place. This year’s runner up was eighth grader Alexis Cate. Photo and caption: Amanda Lauster
