Each year, Proctor Academy runs a five-day, experiential learning intensive program called Project Period. Over 30 faculty-sponsored groups of students will spend four days living and learning together from March 25 through 29. Projects range from dog-sledding in northern Maine to learning about acting and dance in New York City. Other groups are learning about entrepreneurship and writing business plans, while yet others are volunteering in the local community.
One group that will be directly engaged with the Andover community is planning and organizing Proctor’s second annual St. Baldrick’s event; another, a group of six students led by Brenda Godwin, will intern in the Andover Elementary/Middle School.
Each year, Brenda’s Project Period group dives head first into learning about elementary education first hand during this week. Students will help teach classes, supervise recess, complete administrative tasks for teachers, and without a doubt develop close relationships with some of the students.
Proctor is thankful for AE/MS’s willingness to open their doors and provide mutually beneficial learning opportunities for both Proctor and AE/MS students.
