Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust will hold a timber hike on Friday, March 27, from 2 to 4 PM. We will be visiting two properties in Sutton, beginning at the Putnam easement on Hominy Pot Road. They recently harvested some timber off of the 11 acres on the east side of Hominy Pot Road. The cut is complete, but we can tour the impact of the timber harvest on the property.
We will then travel to the Johnson Property on Village Road. That property is now owned by Nate Byfield, who is doing the cut under the direction of a forestry management plan. The cut there may be ongoing, depending on the conditions present in the forest for the remainder of the winter. This will demonstrate a larger-scale cut on a conservation easement property.
