The Literary Arts Guild of the Center for the Arts, Lake Sunapee Region, invites the community to attend a program of fine music and original poetry on Friday, April 10, in celebration of National Poetry Month. The event will take place in Sunapee Harbor at the Lake Sunapee Protective Association’s Knowlton House from 5:00 PM to 7 PM. Light refreshments will follow the evening’s planned program.
Kaitlyn Covel for the Center for the Arts (CFA) and Charlotte Signor for Summer Music Associates will co-host this event, bringing together a collaboration of music, poetry and photography. .
CFA’s state-wide poetry contest, just concluded, brought an excellent response from poets throughout New Hampshire. The challenge to poets was to select a piece of music and create a one-page poem expressing their thoughts and feeling in words and images evoked by the music. The winning poets will be introduced by New Hampshire’s Poet Laureate Alice E. Fogel, who selected the two winning poems.
Charlotte Signor of Summer Music Associates will then introduce the Boston-based Trio Cleonice. This trio includes a pianist, violinist, and cellist: Ari Isaacman-Beck is the violinist, the cellist is Gwen Krosnick, and pianist Emely Phelps. This young trio has established itself as one of the most “creative, communicative, and exhilarating” ensembles. Recently, they completed a tenure as Graduate Piano Trio in Residence at the New England Conservatory of Music. They were also awarded second prize at the Alice and Eleon Shoenfield International string competition in Harbin, China. This evening they will play the first three movements of Robert Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 2 in F major Op 80.
CFA’s Literary Art Guild members listened to the three movements and were challenged to respond by creating a poem or a photograph representing their thoughts and feelings evoked by the music. Each Schumann movement evokes different emotions: The first is very lively. The second is with intimate feeling, and the third is with more massive emotion. The following guild members responded to this challenge and will present their photos and read their poems:
First movement: Dianalee Velie-poem, and Bob Popp-photograph
Second movement: Natalie Davis-poem, and Maureen Rosen-photograph
Third movement: Joan Doran-poem, and Jay Fitzpatrick-photograph
All CFA-sponsored Friday events are free and open to the public. These events include gallery openings and receptions, classical and folk music performances, literary readings, as well as theatrical performances. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors.
