Four recent adventures in faraway places will be shared via slide presentations by Andover residents in the first of a series of Travel Nights to be offered on Wednesday, May 27, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover. The public is invited at no charge.

The event has been organized by the Andover Institute, an offshoot of the newly formed Andover Community Association (ACA).

The adventures and their presenters:

  • Bhutan, by Charlie Darling
  • Nepal, by Nancy and Ken Tripp
  • Alaska, by Larry and Susan Chase
  • Cuba, by Jay Fitzpatrick and his sister Donna

The organizer of the event is Jay Fitzpatrick, a freelance photographer and photography instructor living in East Andover. Describing the rationale for the series he’s developing, he noted, “With the advent of smart phones, digital cameras, and readily available viewing equipment, practically anyone who’s been traveling – whether around the world or around the state – can come back to Andover with material worth sharing with others, in public presentations and private conversations. We’re hoping this project will open up all kinds of connections among local residents of all ages.”

Beacon readers with an illustrated travel story to tell should contact Jay at Jall@nulltds.net or 455-6595. The Andover Institute is currently organizing the next Travel Night, expected to be offered this summer.
