Andover High All-Class Reunion on July 11

Potluck lunch in Danbury starts at 10 AM

By Judy Perreault, AHS '53

Our Andover High School reunion is only a short time away, and this is a final reminder. The fun starts on Saturday, July 11, at 10 AM at the Ordway Recreational Area in Danbury.

Bring a chair, drink, dish for pot luck, your memorabilia (wedding album), and your memories. We will once again cheer for our school, sing a few songs, take some pictures, and remember those who have gone to that other reunion. I like to think they are with us in spirit, if not in person.

It’s very interesting to read through our old Blue and White Banners. They had poems, stories, class and sport news, games, jokes, and the latest gossip cloaked in obscure one-liners like “Billy Putney must have the smallest boy’s hands in the school, as he is wearing a girl’s ring” or “Whose lipstick is on Denny Fenton’s shirt?” Of course we all knew, but it was fun to see it in print. There was no computer, Internet, or Facebook in those days.

Andover also exchanged newsletters with other schools. One was in Springfield, Illinois. The newsletter was also sent to local servicemen.

The spring of 1950 issue was full of senior news. There were poems, yearbook information, and articles about the value of education and choosing a career. We experienced the same excitement and uncertainties about entering the “adult” world. Well, we made it and are now watching our great nieces, nephews, and grandchildren move along that same path.

See you at the reunion where we can compare notes, brag a little, and enjoy being with our classmates.

In case of rain, we will meet at the old high school.
