This photo was taken on June 16, after two days of rain. As you can see, the water level is right up to the nest. At this level, any amount of wave activity on the lake could wash the eggs away. Jason Dudek, our dam monitor and controller, and I decided that it was necessary to lower the dam in order to protect the nest from flooding. He removed one board at the dam on the evening of the 16th. Hopefully, the water level is down a few inches. Jason said that it would take at least five hours to see any difference. Fortunately the lake was calm last night. Good fortune has been on our side thus far! Only about 12 days to go! Photo and caption: Donna Baker-Hartwell
