Improvements at Mount Sunapee this summer include totally refurbishing the Spruce Lodge Cafe scramble and seating areas and adding the Evolution Bike Park to the Summer Adventure Park. Other improvements this summer will add more energy-efficient snow guns to its snowmaking arsenal.
The Evolution Bike Park, offering lift-serviced downhill mountain biking, was added as a new activity to the Adventure Park. The bike park opened this summer with a one mile-long family-friendly trail from the summit of South Peak.
Three more bike trails are under construction this summer, including a more-difficult trail opening in early July and two most-difficult trails scheduled to open in August and September. There will be almost four miles of trails open by fall.
Trail passes, full-suspension Specialized bike rentals, and introductory packages including a clinic, bike rental, and a trail pass are offered. The Adventure Park, opened in 2012, has become one of the biggest summer attractions in the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region.
Mount Sunapee is purchasing 33 more SV-10 snow guns, bringing the total inventory of these energy-efficient snow guns to 190. These guns make twice as much snow as older style snow guns with only one quarter of the compressed air. Mount Sunapee has averaged a top-three ranking in the East over the past 10 years for snow quality and grooming in the annual SKI Magazine Reader Survey.
“Mount Sunapee is committed to the best possible snow surfaces, while at the same time being more energy efficient and reducing our carbon footprint,” said Jay Gamble, vice president and general manager. “These additional energy-efficient snow guns will help us achieve both these goals.”
The Spruce Lodge Cafe scramble and seating areas will be totally refurbished for the upcoming winter season. The scramble area will be enlarged and redesigned with new fixtures to be more efficient. The seating area on the first floor of the lodge will receive new tables, chairs, carpeting, and a new decor.
Other items include $100,000 worth of new rental equipment in the Rental Shop to keep pace with new ski and snowboard technology and a new phone system to enhance the guest experience. The total capital expenditures are in excess of $600,000.
