August 5, 1965

Microwave Relay Tower Being Built Here: Construction of a microwave relay tower, part of the network that will join Ashburnham, Massachusetts, and Cornish, Maine, is underway out on Flaghole Road and expected to be in service by 1966.

Maude (Adams) Whitney, 81, the widow of George S Whitney, died this past Sunday evening.

Mrs Georgia A Belisle, 76, of East Andover, died on July 29.

Auction this coming Saturday, August 14, at the Andover Fish and Game Club at 10 AM. Everything you can think of will be on sale. Put on by East Andover Ladies Union.

Mr and Mrs John Forsberg celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, August 1, at the Pine Grove across from their home in East Andover. One hundred relatives and friends came to wish the couple well, from as far away as Illinois.

August 12, 1965

A son was born on August 7 to Mr and Mrs Howell A Jones of Fairfield, Connecticut. Mrs Jones is the former Miss Dorothy Dunn. The child, their third, is named Todd Stannard.

A Chicken Barbecue will be put on by Andover Fish and Game Club this coming Sunday, August 15, from 12 to 3 PM in the Pine Grove on Route 11 in East Andover. Tickets sold at the Grove for $1.50 a piece.

The luncheonette at JJ Newberry’s, in Franklin town, will feature a Golden Brown Filet of Fish Dinner this week, with french fries and coleslaw, for 99 cents. Top it off with one of their giant deluxe banana boats, with ice cream, whipped cream, fruit, crushed nuts, and cherry for 39 cents.

Regal Theatre is the place to be on Monday, August 16, for one matinee show only. Don’t miss seeing on stage, in person, Mad Monster Impersonator Dr Evil, and his Terrors of the Unknown. See girls’ heads chopped off right before your eyes. Monsters will grab these girls from the audience. First time in the Franklin area. Not at all like other stage shows. And if this were not enough …

Show number two will feature, in person, The Mummy-King Kong. Real terror. The undead will sit right next to you! Slave girls will be captured out of the audience by gorillas. “We can’t advertise what happens when the lights go out, but WOW!” Plus: an added horror movie. Free shrunken head to the first 150 humans attending the matinee. (Don’t risk being human 151.)

August 19, 1965

Alvin S Hawes, 82, a 40-year resident of East Andover, passed away on August 18. Mr Hawes was a charter member of the Andover Fish and Game Club and an active member of the East Andover Fire Department for many years.

August 26, 1965

Mrs Donald Crisp will start a nursery school on September 8 in the Proctor Church.
