Dennis Phelps Lands Closest to the Pin on the Fourth

Richard Brewster gets third place

Eighty-four golfers tried their expertise at the Closest to the Pin contest on Carr Field during Andover’s Fourth of July celebration. The distance was set at 100 yards.

Danbury was well represented, and there were lots of good shots from Andover as well. Until it was time for the parade, there was a good throng of onlookers and plenty of cheerful comments.

Chris Young and his father helped out with measuring for much of the morning, and Tom Frantz and Brian Reynolds were around at the end to pick everything up.

Winners were: first place, the ever popular Dennis Phelps of Danbury, with a distance to the pin of 1′ 7″. Fellow Danburyite Walter Hoy was second with a 3′ 8″. The redoubtable Richard Brewster, who sometimes wins all the prizes, came in third with 4′ 8″.

The prizes were two rounds of golf at Mojalaki, a round of golf at Country Club of New Hampshire, and two ski passes to Ragged Mountain Resort. The event raised $420 for the Andover Recreation Committee.
