Save the date and time: August 21, 7 PM, for the monthly “Third Friday” Andover Community Coffeehouse Show featuring Scott King. Scott is described as “a powerful vocalist, deft guitarist, and crackerjack writer” whose performances “effortlessly meld rock, folk, blues, and more in a delightfully melodic, unforgettable blend of original songs.”
Also appearing onstage that evening will be up to a dozen open-microphone performers, whose contributions in previous months have ranged from the spoken word to show-business, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and country-and-western tunes.
Doors to the Highland Lake Grange Hall in East Andover will open at 6 PM for food purchases, offered by the Andover Congregational Church, and for open-mic sign-ins on a first-come, first-serve basis. The show begins at 7 PM under the sponsorship of Ragged Mountain Physical Therapy of Andover.
King began his career in “the early ’90s” as a solo acoustic performer in venues throughout New England and later in Europe. Upon his return, he entered Boston’s thriving folk-music scene, and in less than a year, he wound up a semi-finalist in the Boston Acoustic Underground Competition and a finalist in the WADN Riverbank Songwriting Contest.
Throughout his career, King has shared stages and co-billings with many acclaimed artists, including Bill Morrissey, Brooks Williams, The Nields, Ellis Paul, Pierce Pettis, Jonathan Edwards, Rick Derringer, and Don White. He has released six studio albums to date.
Coffeehouse events since January have drawn standing-room-only audiences and close to a dozen open-mic candidates each month. The venue was chosen by the editor of New Hampshire Magazine as “2015 Best of New Hampshire Open Mic Night.”
Information about future dates and scheduled performers and a photographic record of the performers, both headliners and open-mic participants, are shown in the Coffeehouse Web site at AndoverCoffeeHouse.org or on the Facebook page “Andover Community Coffeehouse.”
Looking ahead: On Friday, September 17, the headliner will be Neptune’s Car, an acoustic duo from Massachusetts and New Hampshire who play original contemporary folk music. For more information go to NeptunesCar.com.
