The 101st annual Blazing Star Grange and Community Fair will be held on Saturday, September 12, in Danbury. A day-long schedule of activities is planned that includes breakfast, lunch, and supper along with games, crafts, exhibits, parade, tractor pulling, and a horseshoe tournament.
Another long-standing tradition that is sure to please fair-goers is the Baby Show, where parents and grandparents display their pride and joy on stage in the Blazing Star Grange Hall. For the little ones, newborn to three years old, this tradition has gone on at this event for most of 100 previous years.
And yes, it once was a judged contest among rivaling neighbors. There are stories to tell. To hear some, take a moment to ask Louise Huntoon about when she was once a contestant. You can find her registering babies for the show or serving up pie during the baked bean and ham supper.
Andover’s Ragged Mountain Band
If music is your love, the familiar faces and tunes of Lindsey Schust and the Ragged Mountain Band will play from 11 AM to 2 PM under the tent near the Grange Hall. And at night, the Cardigan Mountain Tradition group will take center stage performing bluegrass music for the crowd.
