SRKG Offers Five Hikes and a Workshop in October

Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway (SRKG) Coalition summer hikes are free to the public. Please call the volunteer hike leader to learn starting location and time. Be prepared: Bring water, bug and sun protection, and a snack. Trail skills workshops are designed for volunteers who want to help where they hike.

Sunday, October 4: Easy hike in Springfield on SRKG Trail 4 from Baptist Pond to New Hampshire 114 via Star Lake Farm. 4.1 miles on paved and abandoned roads. Contact: Lee Carvalho at 735-5719 or LeeCarvalho6@nullgmail.com.

Saturday, October 10: Hike SRKG Trail 2 from Old Province Rd in Goshen to Sunapee Town Offices via Webb Forest, Red Water Creek Preserve and Sunapee Riverwalk. Moderate 7.3 miles. Contact: Nathan Richer 763-2127 or NRicher@nullruger.com.

Saturday, October 17: Hike SRKG Trail 6 woodlands from Great Brook in New London to New Hampshire 4A in Wilmot. Easy-ish 3.2 miles on low hills and woodlands paths. Contact: Rosanna Dude at 828-1001 or RosannaLeigh@nullgmail.com.

Saturday, October 24: Learn basic trail maintenance skills – water diversion, root control, path clearing – with expert instructor Lew Shelley, formerly a national crew trainer for Student Conservation Association. Skills you need to adopt a trail. In Newbury on SRK Greenway Fishersfield Trail: 4-to-5 hrs. Contact: Gerry Gold at 526-2857.

Sunday, October 25: Hike Mount Sunapee from Newbury harbor past Lake Solitude and summit to Old Province Road, Goshen. 5.4 miles with steep ascent.Contact: George Beaton at 938-2637 or Kimbalowe@nullgmail.com.
