Celebrate autumn with “Welcoming Rhythms,” a free, interactive concert of African and Afro-Cuban drumming and songs and dance at 7 PM on Saturday, October 17 at the Wilmot Community Association’s (WCA) Red Barn, 64 Village Road in Wilmot.
Grace Schust, Lindsey Schust (both of Andover), and Emilie Meadows, members of the Timbre Drums Ensemble, will perform a festive concert of traditional music from West Africa. The rhythms convey welcome, blessing, celebration, and strength. The three women percussionists teach and perform throughout New England. They are lead percussionists for the Songweaver Women’s Chorus at the Concord Community Music School.
Grace has studied African and Afro-Cuban percussion since 1983 with master drummers from West Africa and the Caribbean. In addition to her work as a performer, Grace has taught percussion throughout the Northeast. She is a co-director of Songweavers Drummers.
Since 1990, Lindsey has studied with African and Afro-Caribbean master drummers. She became a co-director of Songweavers Drummers in 2003. In 2009, Lindsey and Grace founded the Timbre Drum Ensemble, which performs throughout New Hampshire.
Emilie, a percussionist and multi-instrumentalist, has performed with Pangaea, a local drum and dance troupe, and the Akimbo women’s drumming ensemble.
