Students, in grades 6-8, at AE/MS participated in the annual Day of Remembrance. In all Social Studies classes, the students discussed the importance of remembering 9/11 and December 7, 1941 the attack on Pearl Harbor.
The students developed an understanding of the events of 9/11 and compared them to the attack on Pearl Harbor. The students engaged in a class discussion and then participated in creating ideas on ways to commemorate these two historic events. The topic question was “Why should these two dates never be forgotten?” The students formed important connections, presented a lot of great information, and came up with heartfelt ideas. The impact this annual event has on the students is amazing to see.
A big thank you to Bill Leber and Legion Post #101 for donating remembrance hats, given to the creators of selected standout ideas. This year it was extremely challenging to choose only six students.
Congratulations to the following students who are now the proud owners of the Remembrance Hats.
Grade 8: William Furtkamp and Vienna Marcus
Grade 7: Gavin Elliott and Lilly Furtkamp
Grade 6: Sasha Mackenzie and Sophia Reynolds
