FNRT Ponders Plans for Trail Maintenance

All but 12 mileposts are now in place

The Friends of the Northern Rail Trail in Merrimack County (FNRT) met in Franklin on November 18 for its regular monthly meeting. Discussion centered on major challenges now that rail trail construction is complete: maintenance, including runoff issues, falling trees, vegetation control, and blocked culverts. Pictured are Dyer's Crossing project manager Ricker Miller of Andover, milepost restoration leader Ed Hiller of East Andover, and FNRT board member Jack Shields of Penacook. Ed is working to restore the historic mile markers along the 58 miles of the Northern Rail Trail. All but 12 are now in place, and there are plans for their restoration. Caption and photo: Lindy Heim
