For the past 2 years the greater Andover community and Proctor Academy have come together to raise over $56,000. to help fight childhood cancer by having volunteer “shavees” shave their heads for a St. Baldrick’s head shaving event.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and to help give survivors long and healthy lives. By hosting head shaving events like the one held at Proctor Academy the past two years, volunteers raise money to fund childhood cancer research, an underfunded area of research.
Proctor Academy will again host the 3rd Annual St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Event on March 26, 2016 at the Proctor Fieldhouse. We will be awarding the “Brave to Shave” team award to the team that has raised the most money. In 2014, Andover Fire/EMS were the winners and are currently in the lead again in 2015. (Yes you can still donate money to your favorite team at stbaldricks.org/events/proctoracademy2015). The winner gets a fire helmet with the St. Baldrick’s logo and “Brave to Shave” award on it donated by Garrison Fire and Safety in Palenville, New York.
We are excited to have the Andover and surrounding communities involved in this event by becoming a “Shavee” or simply volunteering your time and efforts. So get your team together and come out and support a great cause. If you would like more information or you would like to sign up for the event you can go online at stbaldricks.org/events/proctoracademy2016 or e-mail Chris Young at youngch@nullproctoracademy.org.
