The weather was terrible on Saturday (the worst Nor’Easter since 1958), with between 10 and 12 inches of wind-driven snow making driving hazardous and nearly impossible at times. Nevertheless, the East Andover Congregational Church was filled to capacity with friends and neighbors present to pay their last respects to Stephen Jewett, East Andover paratrooper who died in action in Vietnam on December 27, 1965. It was a full military burial.

The Stephen D. Jewett Memorial Scholarship Fund, set up by the Andover Lions Club, has grown steadily in further tribute to the young East Andover paratrooper. It had been hoped that the final figure would come to at least $1,200 so that the interest from the fund will provide a scholarship of $50 yearly for an Andover high school student. Tim Frost, who is in charge of the fund, reports this week that the total has reached $1,284!
