The Wilmot Community Association (WCA) will host “Backyard Maple Sugaring for Beginners,” a free workshop at 6:30 PM on Thursday, March 17, at the association’s Red Barn at 64 Village Road in Wilmot.
Tim Fleury, UNH Cooperative Extension natural resources field specialist for Merrimack County, will present the program that is geared to first-timers and beginner maplers having fewer than 75 taps.
Tim will review all aspects of maple sugaring including tree identification and tapping, collecting and boiling sap, and finishing, filtering, and packing syrup. He also will discuss equipment – especially sizing and operating small evaporators, homemade and commercial – and supplies that participants will need to make syrup.
Refreshments – with an emphasis on maple products – will be served. Members of the audience will be eligible to win a pint of New Hampshire maple syrup.
To register, please send an e-mail to WCA@tds.net or call the WCA at 526-7934.
