The Geography Bee has made a return this year to Andover. Eight geography experts of Andover Elementary/Middle School competed for the title of AE/MS Geography Bee Champion.
The competition began with every student in grades five through eight competing for a spot in the second round of the Geography Bee. With questions ranging from world geography to United States geography, the challenge for the students was at a very high level.
The finalists – fifth graders Helen Armstrong and Dominick McCord, sixth graders Dana Buswell and River Turnbull, seventh graders Cedar Kiedaisch and Jim Clough, and eighth graders Will Furtkamp and Garrett Munson – faced each other head to head in front of a supportive audience of their fellow classmates. The final round was in the same open format as the preliminary rounds.
The students put forth a fabulous effort, and the competition was full of entertainment. In the end, seventh grader Cedar Kiedaisch rose through the ranks to win the final round and the right to call herself Andover 2015-2016 Geography Bee Champ.
The next step for Cedar is to submit an online test and hope she makes the grade to be selected to compete at the state level. AE/MS staff, students, and the Andover community wish Cedar “Good Luck!”
