The Wilmot Farmers Market’s board is pleased to announce that through a partnership with the Merrimack Country Conservation District (MCCD), the market will be accepting SNAP benefits plus debit and credit cards for the 2016 season. This is made possible in part by the New Hampshire Electric Coop, as they contacted the MCCD wishing to sponsor the Wilmot market.
The MCCD manages SNAP program at several Merrimack county markets and has recently expanded the program to winter markets in Danbury and Contoocook. The program involves an equal cost match for every dollar deducted from a SNAP benefit EBT card, up to $10. The cost match program runs in one of two ways, and at press time the board was unsure which way the program will run.
Some cost share sponsors just allow market match funds to purchase fruits and vegetables. Other sponsors, such as those for the Danbury Winter Market, allow all food items to be purchased as long as the food qualifies for the SNAP program. The program provides greater access for qualifying families to get fresh and quality items at a farmers market.
The Wilmot Farmers Market’s board is on the home stretch, aware that Saturday, June 25, will be here before they know it. Musicians have been scheduled, and Children’s Day has been scheduled for Saturday, July 16. The first round of applications have been approved.
A partial vendor list has been posted at WilmotFarmersMarket.com. There are still market openings. The board is specifically searching for a lamb vendor and for fruit or vegetable growers.
