ANDOVER ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL
The third and final trimester is already underway. Report cards will be sent home with students on or before Monday, March 28th. Please let us know if you do not receive one.
Teachers spent last Tuesday focusing on safety. Many received certification through a FEMA emergency management course and many received recertification for CPR and First Aid. Math and Writing committee work also took place. It was a productive day!
Congratulations to the following students who memorized an impressive number of digits of Pi. Amazing accomplishment!
The 2016 Pi Champions are:
K-2 Caleb Moriarty 22 digits
3-4 Oliver Andrews 107 digits
5-6 Jesse Niemyer 110 digits (new school record!)
7-8 Riley Keezer 32 digits
Please keep us in mind when spring cleaning especially when it involves books and legos.
If some of our students look a bit tall next week it is probably a Proctor Academy student that you are seeing. Several PA students will be helping throughout the building next week. Many are working with kindergarten students and 1st grade students while others are helping “perk” up our library. We look forward to our time together!
Middle School Spring track begins Monday, March 28th! We are thrilled to have Coach Brian Reynolds returning for another fabulously fun season! Practices are from 3:00-4:30 Monday through Friday. Paperwork is going home with 6th-8th grade students this week. Permission slips must be returned and physicals must be current in order to participate. If you have questions please contact Jim Tucker.
Middle school students have recently been reminded of our cell phone policy. Cell phones are allowed at AEMS but they must be kept in backpacks in the locker during the school day. Students carrying or using cell phones during the school day will have consequences appropriate to the situation. Cell phone use is also not permitted on the school bus. Cell phones are very handy after school to contact parents for emergencies or schedule changes. If issues arise during the school day students can use the office phone.
It’s finally here! Seussical the Musical will be performed on Thursday and Friday, March 24th and 25th, at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and 5 years old and under is free. Profits will be used to pay for costs related to the production and to build our drama fund for future plays. If the cost is a concern, please contact me prior to the performance and we can work something out. Thank you to all involved for your help in putting this show together. You won’t want to miss it!
The iPad raffle drawing will be held at the March 25th Seussical the Musical performance. All proceeds go toward the 8th grade NYC class trip. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the play both nights.
Poetry is in the air at AEMS! Poetry Night is April 14th at 6:30. It is a semi-formal evening for the finalists. In-class judging takes place April 6th and 7th. Students must be present to recite with their classmates in order to be considered for Poetry Night. Students in grades 1-8 choose poetry that appeals to them, within the guidelines for their grade, and then memorize for recitations in the classroom. Students are provided with the same rubric that the in-house judges use for scoring. Poetry is included in the curriculum in all grades and we look forward to this annual event to share it together.
Our eighth grade students will graduate Thursday evening, June 9th. This is always a big event in our community!
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!
