ANDOVER ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL
Do Si Do and Swing your Partner! Come to the Community Country Dance this Saturday night at AEMS. It will be a great family fun night! The fun begins at 6:30 and you can dance until 9:00. Fiddler Dudley Laufman will be calling dances. No experience necessary. Light supper items can be purchased. There is no admission charge.
Seussical the Musical was superb! The acting, the singing, and the dancing all came together for a magnificent production! I am very proud of all the students and teachers involved with the show.
Good luck to NH state finalist Cedar Kiedaisch who competes tomorrow in the next level of the National Geographic Society Bee. Go Cedar!!!
We are on track for Poetry Night. Poetry is an important part of our curriculum in all grades. You can hear students reciting their poetry throughout the building. Classroom judging takes place next week. Students in grades 1-8 will recite within their own classrooms with their classmates in front of their teacher and two kind and encouraging judges. Students will find out on Friday afternoon if they are finalists. Finalists from each grade will be invited to recite their poems at Poetry Night on April 14th at 6:30 pm. This is a very important evening and we always ask for the audience to be silent. Poetry recitation is an important skill requiring poise and courage and I am always impressed with how confidently the students carry themselves in front of an audience. All students are to be congratulated for their work.
Report Cards were sent home with all students on Friday. If you did not receive one please contact Mrs. Parenteau. Parent-Teacher-Student conferences can be scheduled at any time. However we really encourage conferencing during the third trimester. You will receive scheduling information from your child’s teacher within the next couple weeks.
April vacation is the week of April 25-29.
Spring is here and it is already that time of year when parents begin thinking about the next school year. The question inevitably comes up, “How are students assigned to teachers and classes?” Our goal is to have all students thrive in balanced, positive learning environments. The teachers, specialists, counselor, and administrators hold grade level meetings and work collaboratively to place students for the following year. Parents may submit a written request regarding their child’s placement but we cannot guarantee that it will be honored. Our school size, staffing, and schedule limitations play a role in the decision. Requests should be sent to my attention only and include academic reasons. A request for a specific teacher will be considered with the rest of the input during the placement process and shared with the team. Please trust that the classroom teacher, who has been working with your child all year, knows your child quite well and conveys all of that information in the placement process. The placement process begins before school ends in June. Placements, however, are never finalized until August because of fluctuations in both enrollment and staffing that occur over the summer. Students in the younger grades are mailed a postcard/letter from their teacher in early August welcoming them to the class. Our task is to build balanced classes in the best interest of our students and their learning. We are committed to making this process work.
Happy April Fools Day!
