Another successful SHARE Day is in the books. It was a very robust, high-energy day. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade participated in a wide variety of morning workshops before coming back together for lunch and sharing experiences from the morning. Morning creations were organized on tables in the gym, and students circulated among them to get ideas of what they might learn and make the following year.
There were many new workshops this year: dog tug toys, rugby, making musical instruments, easy songs, drawing with charcoal, a clay workshop, and more. Old time favorites, including golf, mountain biking, tie dying, horses, the climbing wall, and more were included in the day.
Mountain biking has a really long tradition at AE/MS. A big reason for the success of mountain biking has been Peter Southworth. Peter wasn’t part of SHARE Day this year but will be back next year. However, the mud, the wipe-outs, and the excitement he started with the sport still took place. Thank you, Peter!
SHARE Day includes all AE/MS students. The third through eighth grade take the longer, more intensive workshops, while the younger students participate in smaller workshops. Kindergarten had seven mini-workshops that the students rotated through. They were able to milk a goat, get fingerprinted by a real police officer, experiment with tie dye, and more. First and second grade classes designed, stuffed, and sewed pillows, decorated clipboards, and more.
SHARE Day afternoon was spent in a scavenger hunt activity with teams of staff members and students enthusiastically and creatively taking photos on iPads as they worked their way down the scavenger hunt list. Definitely, a good time was had by all!
It truly takes a community to make SHARE Day such a successful tradition. We are appreciative and grateful for the generous time and expertise shared with us from community members and parents. A big thanks is extended to Gisela Darling for her incredible efforts, year after year. It is amazing to think we are now closing in on the 30-year anniversary of SHARE Day. The very first SHARE Day was in 1989, and the premise is the same today as it was then: See How Arts Reach Everyone!
Get ready for the 30th anniversary!
