On Thursday, August 4, at 7:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in New London, Summer Music Associates presents Paula Rockwell performing “In an English Garden,” with selections by Purcell, Handel, Barber, and Quilter, as well as a few musical theater surprises.
Paula brought the audience to its feet as the soloist with the Kearsarge Chorale in New London last April.
Acclaimed for her “astonishing clarity and musical intelligence,” her career has taken her across Canada to England, Japan, and the United States performing with orchestras, giving recitals, and instructing. The Halifax Herald said, “…a repertoire such as this is both unusual and challenging, and Rockwell, with her beautiful, clear, ringing voice, meets its technical demands with assurance and precision.”
On Thursday, August 18, at 7:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in New London, Summer Music Associates presents German Pianist Andreas Klein, who will perform the Beethoven Sonata in F minor; Chopin Ballade in F minor; Debussy La Cathedrale Engloutie, Ondine, and Feux d’Artifice; and Brahms Sonata in F minor.
The New York Times declared Andreas Klein “a fascinating artist with all the indispensable qualities: temperament, taste, touch, tone, the four Ts of pianism” and “a pianist who makes silences sound like music.”
Tickets for either performance are $25 for adults or $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door, at SummerMusicAssociates.com, at 526-8234, at Summer Music Associates, PO Box 603, New London NH 03257, and at Morgan Hill Bookstore, Tatewell Gallery, and the New London Chamber of Commerce.
