Seventy-six golfers took part in the Closest to the Pin event on the Fourth of July at Carr Field. The pin was out there, 100 yards from the tee. The prizes were free rounds of golf at local clubs: Den Brae (who also supplied the clubs), Mojolaki, and Country Club of New Hampshire.

Winners of free rounds of golf were Dennis Phelps of Danbury, the defending champion, landing just 2′ 2″ from the pin; Chris Callam of Cumberland, Maine, at 2′ 11″; and Leighton Terwilliger of Andover, at 3′ 7″.

Andover Recreation Committee members Alan Hanscom, Tom Frantz, Heidi Murphy, Tim Norris, Brian Reynolds, and (through Jen Hauser) Harry and Chris Young helped everything go smoothly. The event raised a total of $380; less than last year, but still pretty good for a hot day.
