The New London Barn Playhouse presents Shrek from July 20 to July 31. A lumbering ogre embarks on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking donkey, a feisty princess, a lovesick dragon, a bad-attitude cookie, and a host of other fairy tale oddballs. Based on the Oscar-winning film and nominated for eight Tony Awards, this ingeniously clever, utterly zany musical adventure will delight adults and children alike.
We’re thrilled to welcome back the powerhouse team of Keith Andrews and Vincent Ortega, whose production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels last summer took home an impressive six awards at the New Hampshire Theater Awards, including the night’s top honor of Best Musical.
Also back on the Barn stage is 2010 acting intern Hannah Rose, last seen at the Barn in 2012’s Ragtime, Legally Blonde, and Hair. Hannah spent the last year performing for Tokyo Disney and The Sunshine Travelling Medicine Show.
New to the Barn in this production is Justin Colombo, a graduate of Ithaca College who was in the Rock of Ages National Tour, Saturday Night Fever at Ogunquit Playhouse, and Ragtime at Hanger Theatre, among others.
We’re also happy to welcome local young talent Jakob Vedova (last summer’s Gypsy and Northern Stage’s Youth Ensemble Studio production of The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley), Elizabeth Packard (Brigitta in last summer’s The Sound of Music), and Kate Packard (Young Louise in last summer’s Gypsy).
Shrek runs for two weeks: Wednesday through Sunday, July 20 through 24, and Tuesday through Sunday, July 26 through 31. Evening performances are at 7:30 PM Tuesday through Saturday and 5 PM on Sunday. Wednesday matinees are at 2 PM.
Tickets range from $19.50 to $40, with student rush tickets available for $16.50. Please call 526-6570 or 526-6710 to reserve seats or for more information. Tickets can also be purchased online at NLBarn.org.
